First impressions of Imperial Vienna can be gained at our starting point: the famous boulevard Ringstraße with an approximate length of 4 km. It was created in the course of the cirty's first expansion in the middle of the 19th century on the area of the former “Glacis”. We will have a look on the Museum of Fine Arts, Museum of Natural History, the City Hall, Burgtheater, Parliament, the historical building of the University of Vienna and many more.

The highlight of our excursion is a tour through Schönbrunn Palace, the summer residence of the former Imperial House of Austria.

On the trails of great musicians

Meeting Point: Hotel Savoyen
Duration: 2:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Price: € 35,-

This tour takes you to the historic memorial places of the famous musicians who used to live and work in Vienna. In Nußdorfer Straße we will visit Franz Schubert's birthplace and the adjoining Schubert Museum. Passing Beethoven's “Eroicahaus” we reach Heiligenstadt and take a tour through his apartments in Probusgasse No. 6. Here he wrote the famous “Heiligenstädter Testament”. Alongside the “small Danube” the bus tour takes us to St. Marx Cemetery and in particular Mozart's grave. On the route back to the city center we will have a look on Waisenhauskirche (orphanage church). In 1768 Mozart at the age of twelve composed and conducted a festival mass on the occasion of the church's inauguration.

EUCHEM Runner's cup

Meeting Point: The beginning of the Hauptallee at the famous Prater recreational area with Riesenrad (near U1/U2 subway station Praterstern, also easily reachable via Schnellbahn from the conference venue “Rennweg”)
Duration: Start at 7 p.m.

Show that your diffusion coefficient is much faster than conventional ionic liquids! The “Hauptallee” is a little more than 4 km, starts at the famous Riesenrad and ends at the “Lusthaus”, a former imperial hunting lodge. There will be no official time recording but a lot of fun. The winner will be honored with a serving of “Mannerschnitten”, a traditional Austrian sweet sponsored by the organizers and may share it with the rest of the team.

After the joint run, we will relax together in the gardens of “Schweizerhaus” with a hearty meal of traditional roast and beer for dinner (at own expense).

Conference Dinner

on July 7, 2016
Time: 7.30 p.m. – 11.00 p.m.

“Ausg'steckt is”

In Vienna, “Heuriger” is the name for the wine harvested in the previous year and also for the inns where it is sold. “Gemma zum Heurig'n” (= let's go to the Heurigen) is an invitation to a casual get-together in the afternoon or evening with old style music and white wine providing a convivial spirit. Although the typical wine producing locations in Vienna are situated within the city, in most cases they have the character of charming villages, e.g. Neustift, Heiligenstadt or Grinzing.

Spend a few hours with great company, white wine and hearty food. The bus transfer back to the hotel is at approximately 11 pm.
